The most difficult challenge startups must succeed at to earn their way into the Big50 is the Online Voting and Social Media Challenge.
Every startup in this year’s lineup beat out 100+ other startups to get here.
The only way to bypass the voting round is by winning your way into the Big50 the year before. Then, so long as you keep hitting your milestones (and keep meeting Startup50 deadlines), you’ve earned the right to skip the voting.
New startups (and Big50 vets who missed the deadline for byes) had to finish in the top 40% of their voting group, and they also had to make an impact on social media.
This week will we feature the best of the best of this year’s Voting and Social Media challenge. The first three startups won their voting groups and made a big splash on social media. We’re also featuring two wildcards, or the next two top vote getters, regardless of group.
The startups featured this week know that they need to get eyeballs to get followers, followers to get leads, and piles of piles of qualified leads to get customers. And they’re figuring out how to go about this process in a chaotic, social-media-driven, highly fragmented market.
Come back tomorrow, when we’ll feature the Crypto startup that won Group 1.
